      Dear fellow club members!

      Being still in the process of recovering my flying skills and knowledge, I don’t quite fill “in command” with the new SERA rules yet.

      Is the following correct?

      1. There are less permanent restricted, prohibited and dangerous areas than before, and authorities now publish an amendment to AIP periodically to specify where P, R and D areas will be established for the period. The info is obtained here:

      2. But to know what P, R and D areas are active for a particular day I shall go here:,

      and download the latest nav warning chart.

      Is this correct?

      Also, there are new types of airspace: TSA and TRA. I know the ICAO definition, but there are so many of these zones in the latest amendment. Are they also active on some scheduled basis? How do I know if a particular area is active or not?

      Basically R-areas (restricted area) R10-R54 and R100 are active 24H.

      Other R-areas (R55-R99) are activated by NOTAM.

      Temporary R-areas can be published by AIP Supplement or by NOTAM.

      All active R-areas are shown on

      You may fly into active D-area (danger area) on your own discretion. These areas were earlier defined as glider areas. Some firing buffer zones over high seas are now marked with D, because a state cannot have R-areas outside its borders. D-areas activated for gliding and parachute jumping and aerobatics etc. are not shown on warning map, but they are listed in the Nav Warnings -section of preflight bulletin.

      Absolutely no flying into P-areas, and note that Porvoo Oil refinery is now P-area.

      TRA-areas (training area) are always inside controlled airspace (TMA/CTR), and ATC will give clearances through them. You may ignore these when planning cross country flights. They are published because they can be used by military and civilian flight schools to reserve a specific training area for maneuvering during ATS operating hours.

      TSA (temporary segregated area) on the contrary, is an absolute no-fly-zone when activated. TSA areas can be in uncontrolled or controlled airspace. Usually during summer season the floor is set to FL65, but during winter usually 3000ft MSL. But you have to check these individually to see if you can fly below, they can be reserved from GND, too. TSA-areas are not shown on the warnings -map.
